Solar Light Work
Artist: Andrew Sabin
Permanent Work
This commission aims to expose another movement of a certain type
of material through the Horsebridge development - the energy of
the sun.
The design for this work will incorporate simple elements - some
photovoltaic cells, a battery and a light source in a transparent
housing. The cells will absorb the energy of the sun each day and
then charge the battery. As the sun sets, a light sensitive switch
will turn on the light source which will be powered by the battery
for as long as its energy lasts - creating a direct relationship
with the amount of sun received that day. On a long sunny, summer
day, the light will stay on for most of the night. On a grey winter's
day, its life will be much shorter.
The solar light work will be installed in a south facing position,
possibly in the public square or possibly on a roof space at the
Community Arts Centre.
